Karkhana Global is a 501 (c)(3) designated non-profit organization that works to ensure the fruits of innovation are shared equitably within and between nations. Co-located between Seattle, Washington and Kathmandu, Nepal. Karkhana Global works across three broad areas: Digital Transformation, Innovation in Education and Skilling for Innovation. Karkhana Global is part of the Karkhana network, which includes Karkhana.Asia, a social business focused on STEAM education in South Asia, and Karkhana Samuha, a non-profit organization based in Nepal.

Digital Transformation
With a conviction that the benefits of digital technologies can be shared more equitably, Karkhana Global tackles multiple digital divides: in access, in skill, and in utilization. Our engineering and technological skills are put to use tackling the digitization of services utilizing ICT4D and user-centric design frameworks. Our pedagogical skills are leveraged to tackle digital literacy. Our Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA), including a commitment to gender equity, results in programs that model how the socio-political changes resulting from digitization can be inclusive and leave no one behind.
National education systems, including unconventional spaces for informal and non-formal education, are important for catalyzing social change. Nimble, creative, and deeply rooted in educational systems, Karkhana Global is positioned to be an innovative partner for state institutions, development partners, philanthropists, and school systems. With Human Centered Design as our driving creative principle, Karkhana Global works with a range of partners across issues of teaching-learning, governance, and social accountability in education.
Karkhana Global’s Skills For Social Innovation program is available to organizations looking to adopt iterative Human Centered design processes into the work cultures. Based on Karkhana’s TMPI (Think Make Play Improve) toolkit, the skilling program embodies co-creation methods that give voice and influence to the ultimate beneficiary and includes alternative techniques to source, identify and define social problems. Karkhana Global’s approach mixes traditional training workshops with on-the-job “homework” and learn-do-feedback cycles where facilitators observe participants in action and provide feedback in response.
